I’ve been seeing Loewe belts *everywhere*, especially those ones with the Anagram logo. It’s kinda iconic, tbh. And the fact that people are shelling out serious cash for ’em makes me think they gotta be pretty good, right? I mean, who spends that much on just *any* belt? Nobody!
The descriptions online are, like, all “smooth calfskin leather” and “brass buckle” and “designed to be stylish.” Yeah, no duh it’s designed to be stylish. I’m hoping that’s a given when I’m dropping a small fortune on a belt! But seriously, the calfskin leather thing *does* sound nice. You know, that buttery soft feeling? I’m all about that.
Then you get into the whole “reversible” thing. Okay, that’s actually kinda smart. You get, like, two belts for the price of one (okay, not *really* two for the price of one, because you’re still paying Loewe prices, but you get my drift). And the ellipse design? I gotta Google that, ’cause I’m not exactly sure what an “ellipse” belt is, but it *sounds* chic.
And then there’s the whole handmade aspect. That’s where it gets…interesting. I mean, you gotta imagine someone, like, *really* carefully crafting these things, right? It’s not just some machine spitting them out. At least, that’s what I *want* to believe. Makes the price tag a little easier to swallow, ya know?
But here’s the thing that kinda gets me: are they *really* worth it? I mean, a belt is a belt, right? It holds your pants up. Can’t a perfectly good belt do that for a fraction of the price? Probably. But then again, it wouldn’t be a Loewe belt, would it? It wouldn’t have that Anagram logo screaming “I have taste…and disposable income!”
I dunno. Maybe I’m just being cynical. But the idea of a handmade Loewe belt *does* have a certain appeal. It’s like buying into a little piece of luxury, a little piece of art, even. Plus, it’d probably make my jeans look a whole lot more expensive, even if they’re just from, like, Target.
