First off, lemme just say, Miu Miu ain’t cheap. We all know that. But you kinda get what you pay for, especially when you’re talking about pieces that, ya know, someone *actually* put their hands on. I saw this one post, or maybe it was a thread on, like, Reddit or something, about the Upcycled by Miu Miu collection. Basically, they take old leather jackets (or whatever) and, like, give ’em a Miu Miu makeover. Embroidered, bedazzled, probably cost more than my car. Seriously.
And the thing is, it’s not just the price tag. It’s the whole “avant-garde” thing they’re going for. Which sometimes… I don’t get it. Like, is this supposed to be cool? Is this ironic? Is this just a rich person’s game? I dunno. But I *do* know that international celebrities are rocking it, so somebody thinks it’s worth it.
I mean, look at the description from one of these random online stores (Julian’s, apparently?). “Thanks to the high quality in fabrics, the handmade avant-garde and creativity of the Miu Miu design…” Blah blah blah. It’s marketing speak, sure, but there’s a kernel of truth in there. You can *feel* the difference with good fabric. I mean, you can, right? Or am I just pretending to be fancy?
And then there’s the “re-fashioned” angle. They’re taking old clothes, clothes that were probs headed for the landfill, and turning them into, like, wearable art. Which is actually kinda cool when you think about it. Sustainable ideologies, y’know? Trying to do the right thing. But still… a bajillion dollars.
